Screwed over and cheated

It was frustrating to experience such poor quality of goods at the market

Nowadays, you really can’t trust anyone anymore. When you go shopping, you have to expect that they'll sell you something that’s no good. Recently, I wanted to cook a proper Bavarian Pichelsteiner stew. For that, you need three kinds of meat: beef, pork, and veal. So, I went into town to the market, because supposedly there are still butchers there who slaughter their own animals and offer the best meat. After I bought the meat, I browned it in the pot. But you know what? In the end, there was almost nothing left of it! I didn’t brown it too much either—I tried to gently braise it with onions, just the way you do it at home. But there was almost nothing left of the meat, just a few little scraps. It was completely inedible, just fibrous stuff.
The only thing I had left for lunch was a colorful selection of vegetables that I picked from my own garden. That’s how it is, Sepp. You get screwed and cheated everywhere. That’s just the way it is.
